Nyall R Frye - Author

Nyall Robert Frye was born and raised in New Brunswick, Canada - a true Maritimer - but lives and works in the Slovak Republic. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in History with a minor in Anthropology from St. Thomas University in Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada.

The first film he ever remembers seeing was Superman at a drive-in theater in 1978 at the age of six. Things would never be the same. Shortly thereafter he discovered Star Wars, Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica, Buck Rogers, Isaac Asimov, The Incredible Hulk, The Greatest American Hero and many more science fiction works which kept him fascinated. Eventually he would discover The Hobbit and read it in just two and a half hours. He followed that by quickly finding a copy of The Lord of the Rings in the school library and reading it in only a few weeks. He actually began writing at the age of 8 with a short science fiction story heavily influenced by The Empire Strikes Back. Fortunately, this classic work has been lost forever. For his application to the Advanced English program at his former high school, Nyall wrote a short fiction story which impressed the admitting teacher enough to have him placed in the program. At one point during his time at university, he was told by one history professor that his essay on the crusades was enough to convince the professor that Nyall should pursue writing as a career. The seed had been planted. He got a B+ on the essay.

Nyall began writing seriously after many years of writing for his own enjoyment. He has read many works of classical literature and enjoys the opportunity to put a new face on older themes while also exploring new ideas that only the platform of fantasy and science fiction are able to provide. He welcomes constructive criticism - positive or negative - on his work and loves to discuss a variety of themes so long as they are discussed in a respectful and open-minded manner.

Nyall has a number of personal interests, including traditional Aikido (brown belt - 1st kyu), physics and sciences, comics (Superman and Deadpool), science fiction films (classic and contemporary), painting and sketching, World of Warcraft, The Old Republic, physical fitness and he's a dedicated Boston Bruins and ice hockey fan.
